Holography through TIR : Future of virtual reality

Holography as we all know is the method of displaying any object giving different views from different perspective primarily through a holographic plate, a bunch of lasers and some other laboratory conditions. This is exactly what a camera might have been fourty years ago with a photographic plate. Forget about the hundreds of pictures we click everyday even sending a photograph over a network would have felt like discussing time machine. But then photocell occured (complementary metaloxidesemiconductor (CMOS) specifically) and revolutionized the way we captures our moment.

Now holography provides us with same engineering challenge, the way we capture the objects impression and the way we renders it. Total Internal Reflection is one solution to this and it also helps in digitalising the process i.e., now the object may not be at the same place where hologram is to be produced. It requires a new mechanical model and completely different working environment (operating system). Holography is certainly the future of virtual reality.

Holography still remains a vast domain which remains unexploited on practical grounds which automatically attracts some vivid imagination from engineering view points. Its time to bring holograms out from labs and make it a technology.
